CBA for SLPs: Assessing Spoken and Written Language Samples to Inform Curriculum-Based Language Intervention
Nickola Nelson, Ph,D., CCC-SLP

Learn about a model of language development that considers linguistic levels (sound/word and sentence/discourse) across modalities (listening; speaking; reading; writing). This model can bring order to planning and insights into students' profiles. Speech-language pathologists can use their knowledge of spoken language development and disorders to guide curriculum-based assessment of reading and writing samples to collaborate with other special educators and general education teachers to provide appropriate services. As a result of this course, participants will be able to list at least two curriculum-relevant techniques for assessing sound/word and sentence/discourse skills, use language-based procedures to gather and analyze probes of children's reading and writing, and list appropriate intervention objectives and techniques for working on spoken and written language in collaborative service delivery models.  NOTE:  Due to funding guidelines, priority will be given to Oakland County registration. Out-of-county registrants may be moved to a waiting list, but will be notified in advance of the change in registration status.
