Autobiographical Information
Gail
J. Richard, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a professor in the Department of
Communication Disorders & Sciences at Eastern Illinois
University in Charleston, Illinois. Her professional
training includes an undergraduate degree from Augustana
College, Master of Science from Eastern Illinois University, and
Ph.D. in Communication Disorders from Southern Illinois
University - Carbondale. Dr. Richard has been on the
faculty at Eastern Illinois University for 20 years, where she
teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and serves as a
clinical supervisor for diagnostic and clinical practicum
experiences. Areas of expertise are in childhood
developmental language disorders, such as autistic spectrum
disorders, selective mutism, language |
| processing,
and language-learning disorders. Previous professional
experience includes public school therapy and a
diagnostic/therapeutic preschool setting. Gail consults
with numerous school districts and families to assist in
educational programming ideas and problem solving for special
needs individuals. She is a popular presenter around the
country due to the practical nature of the information shared
with her audiences.
Dr.
Richard's professional honors and awards include past
President and Fellow of the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing
Association, recipient of the Illinois Clinical Achievement
Award, ASHA Legislative Council for over ten years, ASHA
Speech-Language/Speech Science Assembly Coordinator,
Outstanding Alumnus Award at Southern Illinois
University-Carbondale, five Faculty Excellence Awards, and
NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative for Eastern Illinois
University.
